Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

October 30, 2012

Based on the 2005 novel by Jonathan Safran, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is an excellent movie.  When I read the description, I thought, oh no, not another 9/11 movie.  It’s been done, over and over.  But this is different.  Apart from the obvious reasons, it’s a huge cry-fest.  As de-sensitized to the happenings of that fateful day,  when the plot reveals itself here, there is no way you can get through this without losing it.  Thomas Horn plays Oskar Schell, a young boy who loses his father in the tragedy.  Tom Hanks plays the father and Sandra Bullock plays the mother.  Big stars, but successfully leaving their big star egos at the door.  Director Stephen Daldry presented this in an extremely tasteful and respectful way.  Watch the trailer at

If you haven’t seen the movie, put it on your list.  I gave it five stars *****.  This is Steve R Morse in Fort Lauderdale with this week’s movie review.
