Kientzler Riesling Grand Cru Geisberg 1997

September 25, 2012

The Kientzler Riesling Grand Cru Geisberg 1997 is a beautiful textbook example of what a mature reisling from Alsace should taste like.  With a beautiful nose of petrol and baked apples, this off-dry white wine was a perfect accompaniment to the broiled black cod we paired with it.  We reduced a bit of the same wine with shallot, a dash of soy sauce and a teaspoon of white miso for a sauce that married perfectly with the fish.  It has a long, long finish expected from a grand cru.  Although now hard to find,  other, more readily available reislings offer up an excellent choice for pairing with fish dishes rather than the same old chardonnay or sauvignon blanc.  This is Steve R Morse in Fort Lauderdale from the Geisberg side of the vineyard.
