Clerico Barolo Pajano 2003

Barolo is all about finess and power.  The 2003 Pajano from Clerico is no exception.  Nebbiolo is a noble grape from the Piedmonte region of northern Italy.  Limited production and typically expensive wines make Barolo all but unaffordable for casual drinking  I paired this wine with Lucy’s famous beef stew.  The  formidable tannins married beautifully with the richness and flavor of the stew.  We let it decant for about two hours before dinner, which helped quite a bit.  Dried cranberries, olive and pine notes revealed much complexity throughout the dinner.  Although Barolo is known for taking forever to get ready,  I think the 2003 is reaching is peak and will remain there for some time, but probably won’t climb higher in the future.  This is Steve R Morse from Fort Lauderdale reporting to you live with another fine wine review.
